Which platforms are best for posting short form content on?

TikTok has set a new standard for content with short form, vertical video. Instagram, YouTube, Facebook etc. now include their own short form video formats.

With this being said, I want to answer the following questions, from my personal point of view: Which niche should I post in? Should you produce long form video as well? Which platforms are best for posting short form content on?

Niche. When starting a channel, it is often advised to pick, and stick with a category/niche. This is because you’ll be able to focus on one thing, and more importantly learn and research much more effectively. Here are the niches in which I recommend you post within, per platform:

Instagram Reels/Facebook: Pets, Travel, DIY tutorials, etc. These are amazing niches with MASSIVE audiences on Instagram and Facebook. This being said, there are literally 100+ more niches you could target on these platforms, all with great potential.

YouTube Shorts: Finance, Education, or literally any other niche. I have personally had some decent success posting on YouTube shorts. 50k views in 1 month, starting with well under 100 subs! This is because the shorts algorithm pushed my content hard. But, it did this on both channels I have ventured to post on, and this tells me there i real opportunity with shorts, even for channels with tiny followings.

TikTok: Literally anything. As long as you have a strong strategy and quality content, there will be a plethora of TikTok users in your niche, who you can target. The major downside of TikTok, though, is how difficult and time consuming it can be to start making money.

Should you produce long form video as well? In my personal opinion, there are only two circumstances in which I would advise posting long form content: If you have already had success doing it, OR, if you simply cannot get your message across in short format. This is because of how frequently short form content can be pushed to an audience, vs. very slowly building a channel which posts long form content.

Which platforms are best for posting short form content on? In all honesty, all but one of these platforms are absurdly difficult to gain traction on. This is due to poor algorithms, saturation within every niche, etc.

So…Which platform do I recommend?!

You guessed it, YouTube shorts. I can confidently say, if your new to creating content, YouTube shorts is just about your only chance. Not bad odds at all though, seeing as YouTube shorts is really pushing out content hard, with less focus on big channels in comparison to the other platforms.
